Dal Gosht

Description:-

Dal gosht is one of the most popular traditional dishes in India as well as Pakistan. Dal gosht is prepared of mutton with various spices and dal, which is then slow-cooked. I have also added some pieces of bottle gourd as per my home town style so that it more enhances the taste. Dal gosht is a nutritious dish which is served with tandoori roti or rice but mostly it is served with jeera rice.

Recipe

Ingredients:-

  • Mutton:- 6-7 pieces
  • Bottle gourd:- 5-6peices
  • Toor Dal:- 1 cup
  • Bay leaf:-  1
  • Green Cardamom:- 2
  • Black peppercorns:- 1 tbsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste:- 2tsp
  • Coriander seeds:- 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds:- 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds:- 1tsp
  • Coriander leaves:- 1tbsp
  • Mint leaves:- 1tbsp
  • Turmeric powder:- 1tsp
  • Red chilli powder:- 1tbsp
  • Garam Masala:- 1tbsp
  • Onion:- 2 medium
  • Tomato:- 1
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
Method:-
1) Take toor dal and wash it twice underwater. Then take a cooker and add the toor dal along with water and also place the pieces of bottle gourd and let it cook.
2) Once the bottle gourd is half cooked, keep it aside and continue cooking the dal.
3) Once the dal is cooked, keep it aside.
4) Marinate the mutton pieces for 20-30mins by applying salt and ginger-garlic paste.
5) Take a kadhai and add oil. Once the oil is heated, add the whole spices(green cardamom, bay leaf, and black peppercorns) and saute for few seconds. Then add the marinated mutton and saute it for 5-10mins. Once it is done, keep the pieces aside.
6) Take a pan and add coriander seeds, fennel seeds and cumin seeds and saute it for few minutes. Once it is done, grind it into a fine powder.
7) Now take the same kadhai and add slices of onion, saute it well so that it becomes slight brown in colour. Add ginger-garlic paste along with spices that is red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder) and saute it for a few seocnds.
8) Add finely chopped tomatoes along with salt and water, mix it well till it becomes soft.
9) Once it is done, add the mutton pieces and saute in the mixture for few minutes. Then add the cooked dal along with the bottle gourd and mix it well. Add some water along with finely chopped coriander and mint leaves and let it cook on a slow flame.
10) Once the dal gosht is cooked, garnish it with coriander leaves and fried onions.
11) Serve it hot with roti, naan, or jeera rice.
